Supporting Mental Health in Greater Moncton

Activity Shack...

An oasis to come and garden, walk with others outside and participate in outdoor activities

We want to build an "Activity Shack" at our newest residence located at 1144 Amirault, Dieppe, NB estimated to cost $30,000 in the spring of 2022. This newly acquired 24/7 residence sits on 4.3 acres of land beside the Rotary St. Anselme Park and will allow us to expand and extend our programs and services to residents living in our independent living accommodations, our semi-independent living transition residence, and our 24/7 care residences located throughout the Greater Moncton Area.

Our goal is to promote health and wellness activities, exercise programs, outdoor activities and games, create a space for residents to explore the outdoors using nature to help improve their wellbeing and to promote a more active lifestyle. This has not been possible for our not-for-profit organization until we acquired this property last year.

We would fill the "Activity Shack" (an 18ft x18ft shed type structure) with bikes, skis, snowshoes, and walking sticks to explore the park trails; a motor scooter for those with mobility challenges; gardening tools for our community garden that helps teach skills to residents and allow them to grow their own healthy food; lawn games for outdoor activity programing; yoga matts etc.

The Activity Shack will serve as a HUB for our ARA community to enjoy the outdoors and get together in small groups with our activity coordinators and support staff and create a sense of belonging for residents. It will decrease isolation of residents with mental illness living on their own providing an oasis to come and garden, walk with others outside and participate in outdoor activities. They can also sign items out individually or in small independent groups.

As a not-for-profit we cannot do this without community investors and we hope that you see the impact you can have on helping improve the quality of life and mental wellbeing of this vulnerable group by donating today.
